One Minute Connections

For over three years, I have been hard at work on my second book. And, at long last, Comfort Food: Amazing Friends and the Everyday Stories that Happen Around Food is in its final edit. Look for it in December of this year.

But notwithstanding my busyness, I kept in touch with friends. Years ago, I remembered reading a book called The One Minute Manager.  Well, by golly, I thought about making  one-minute connections to stay in touch with people and reach out.

Check it out:

There must be hundreds of ways, but here are some of mine that keeps things in under a minute.

  1. Smile and acknowledge a stranger. Sometimes that’s all a person needs to make their day.
  2. Send a “Good morning” text or email and link a favorite song to it. Music makes everything seem better!
  3. Promote a community activity either by word of mouth or social media. It feels to support those who support the community.
  4. Pay for the coffee or morning pastry for the person in line behind you. Giving to others in even a small way is a great way to start the day.
  5. Hold the door open for the person behind you. This practice is less common than you think. Trust me – I’ve seen it!

I enjoy looking for ways to connect with friends. Reaching out doesn’t have to take a lot of time out of my day. I practice one-minute connections, discovered that I can take care of my responsibilities and still stay connected to my buddies. Try it and let me know what happens. Have fun!
